The brush on amber pendants of Denmark (c. 4000 B.C.), may suggest a symbolic relationship between the brush and amber, a substance which emanates healing potency. The divine power of the brush/comb can best be perceived in images where the Comb appears as a Goddess with breasts and a head, as in an anthropomorphic comb-pendant from Neolithic Switzerland. To this day European peasants use the comb for protection against diseases and other evils and for healing purposes. This figure is from the Iron Age, Switzerland.
